HOW TO LESSEN MOSQUITO BITES WHILE RV CAMPING

You bring back two things from a camping trip – memories and marks of mosquito bites!

Mosquitoes are one thing you just can’t stop coming after you. If you are camping near a lake, you are in their den and if you are in the dry regions, they are the travelers for the night.

Mosquitoes are not only annoying, these can even ruin all the fun you want to have outside the RV after sunset. Sadly, there are 3000 of them waiting to drink your blood. Some leave no mark, whereas some of their bites are deadly, causing diseases like dengue, malaria and currently trending, Zika.

Does that mean you will cancel all your outdoor plans? The answer is, NO. So, here are some tips that can help you to prevent their itchy bites as you enjoy the .

  • If you are planning to stay out at dawn, dusk or after dark, remember mosquitoes are most active during these times.

  • Wear long-sleeved shirts, pants and socks to cover your skin as much as possible.

  • Do not wear anything with dark colors because that attracts mosquitoes.

  • Dress in white or light-colored clothing.

  • Do not put on scented products like perfumes, fabric softeners and hairspray before stepping outside the RV.

  • Apply bug repellant on the exposed skin and use clothing, shoes and gear treated with permethrin. These will keep the mosquitoes away.

  • You can even burn a mosquito coil as long as you stay outside the van.

If you are camping in a marshland, make sure all the windows and doors of your RV are properly sealed. These areas have mosquitoes throughout the day. In case there are kids on the trip, do not forget to , if they do not want to wear long sleeved clothes and full pants.
